Historic House

Title:
Docent

Goal:
Visitors will understand the role of the culture, technology, and events of the Civil War era in shaping modern American society.

Duties:
Conduct interpretive tours of the Endview Plantation house and grounds. Specifically the docent will: introduce the visitor to the Harwood and Curtis families describe the history of the plantation site explain the design and uses of the house and its furnishings familiarize the visitor with locally significant persons and events connected with the Civil War and its aftermath identify medical practices, instruments, and issues of the era direct visitors to exhibits on the grounds including the dairy, camps, and graveyards

Skills:
Outgoing personality with an interest in history. General knowledge of Civil War era lifestyles and events helpful. Ability to interact clearly and enthusiastically with visitors of various ages and backgrounds.

Training:
Docents must attend two 2-hour training sessions at Endview. Additional enrichment and refresher meetings will be offered occasionally.

Time:
Ten to 12 hours a month, which may include weekends, holidays, and some evenings. A commitment of at least 1 year is requested.
